Elizabeth Proctor was the wife of John Proctor, a successful farmer, tavern keeper and enterpreneur, who lived beyond both Salem Town and Salem Village. The family kept largely to themselves, although they may have angered the Putnam faction in some way, as the families shared a common border. The day after Tituba's confession, Ann Putnam reportedly saw the apparition of Elizabeth in the company of phantoms and the other three "witches." Ann claimed that "Goody Proctor bit, pinched, and almost choked her." This testimony, however, was not recorded until after Elizabeth was condemned, so it may have been created to quiet public outcry.

Elizabeth Proctor was condemned as a witch, but spared for her pregnancy.
