Abigail Williams was the most prominent of the witch accusers. The niece of Samuel Parris, she was most likely an orphan, and living in his house when she and her cousin Betty began the charade in 1692. Unlike her cousin, however, who was sent away to live in Salem Town, Abigail remained in the village throughout the trials as one of the most prominent and active accusers.
