Ann Putnam Jr.
was, besides Abigail Williams, the most prominent of the witch
accusers. The twelve year-old daughter of Thomas and Ann Putnam,
it is impossible to know to what extent she acted on her own, and
to what extent she was a tool of her parents hatreds. Ann was one
of the original four girls to stand against Tituba, Sarah Good,
and George Burroughs,
her spectral visions of the man and his wives were among the
strangest and most gruesome described by any of the accusers.
